Paul Rivet’s snare drum project

As promised, here’s the first post of Paul Rivet’s snare drum project. He went for something special. This is an aged maple shell that has been in my shop for 15 years. The rering are a massive 36 ply with holes to reduce the mass allowing the shell to vibrate.

No router used on these edges, they are shaped by hand with a rasp and sanding. The outside edge will be done after I finish the outside of the shell.

Custom colour mix for an rich aged maple look.

Shell mounted on the staining jig…..and you can start to see the beautiful figuring in the grain.

Paul’s new aged maple snare drum. This beautiful shell has been aging in my shop for 15 years and will finally have the joy of making music.
